Understanding Threats to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA)
Tomorrow · 5:30 PM – 7 PM

Today, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) is under an immediate threat from two directions. Earlier this year, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation proposed new rules which would significantly weaken compliance with the NHPA. More recently, a bipartisan bill was introduced in the senate which would fundamentally rewrite the NHPA itself, threatening the historic places that matter to local communities. Join us to hear about the proposed changes, how they will likely affect our communities, and what you can do to help protect the NHPA and cultural resources across the nation. About the presenter: Chrisitan Driver has worked as a cultural resource professional in the Midwest and west since the early 2000s. He has worked in the Boulder area exclusively for the last decade. He is also a member of the Colorado Council of Professional Archaeologists (CCPA). The Museum of Boulder is hosting this program in partnership with Historic Boulder to provide a welcoming space for informed community dialogue about issues affecting Boulder’s history and historic places, as is in keeping with our mission. This program is free with admission to the Museum of Boulder.
