The Pueblo Archaeological and Historical Society invites the public to the free presentation Mining the Miners in Colorado on Thursday, November 5 at 7:00 PM at the Pueblo Heritage Museum, 201 W. B Street. Randi Samuelson-Brown is an award-winning author originally from Golden, Colorado and now living in Denver. A finalist in the 2021 Colorado Book Awards for THE BAD OLD DAYS OF COLORADO (non-fiction) and a finalist in the Western Writers of America's SPUR Awards for THE WESTER HORSE: A Popular History of the Wild and Working Animal, she has won awards for both her fiction and non-fiction along the way. Ms. Samulelson-Brown will talk about early days out in the West, where women had few employment choices - and even fewer of those which proved lucrative. Enter the women in the "purple" professions - the prostitutes, actresses and clairvoyants. Bad whiskey, bad women, bad choices and bad fortunes sparked "Wild West" behavior—not always with predictable results. https://www.pueblo.us/calendar.aspx?EID=15855
