Today, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) is under an immediate threat from two directions. Earlier this year, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation proposed new rules which would significantly weaken compliance with the NHPA. More recently, a bipartisan bill was introduced in the senate which would fundamentally rewrite the NHPA itself, threatening the historic places that matter to local communities. Join us to hear about the proposed changes, how they will likely affect our communities, and what you can do to help protect the NHPA and cultural resources across the nation. About the presenter: Chrisitan Driver has worked as a cultural resource professional in the Midwest and west since the early 2000s. He has worked in the Boulder area exclusively for the last decade. He is also a member of the Colorado Council of Professional Archaeologists (CCPA). The Museum of Boulder is hosting this program in partnership with Historic Boulder to provide a welcoming space for informed community dialogue about issues affecting Boulder’s history and historic places, as is in keeping with our mission. This program is free with admission to the Museum of Boulder.

A presentation and community conversation exploring Boulder County’s Latine and Chicano history through the Resilient Roots project. Boulder County Parks & Open Space is developing a historic context to document the histories, places, and experiences of Latine and Chicano communities across Boulder County. This presentation will share what we have learned through community engagement, oral histories, and archival research, highlight some of the stories and places emerging from the project, and discuss where the work is headed next. Attendees will also be invited to share feedback, stories, and connections that can help shape the final project. See a brief video about Las Barracas (this evening’s focus) from the presenter Elisabeth Rios-Brooks here . Dra. Becky Chavez – Founder and Primary Consultant, Rooted Pathways Leadership Dra. Wycherley, a striking coal miner in Lafayette, Colorado, engaged in a fight with the Diaz men, non-union miners employed at the Capitol mine. During the fight, Wycherley was stabbed and died. Juan Diaz was shot in the stomach. The Diaz men were captured and held in the Lafayette jail which was surrounded by “250 striking miners and a large number of women” when the Boulder County Sheriff Martin P. Capp arrived. A half hour later, the mob had increased to 500 people, and more than half of them were armed. Capp made an eloquent plea to the crowd, and was credited with preventing a lynchin

Have You Seen My Gods, A special screening of Amitabh Joshi’s powerful documentary exploring Nepal’s stolen sacred heritage. REGISTER HERE For our November program, we would like to host an exclusive screening of Have You Seen My Gods? , followed by a special appearance by Alisha Sijapati . The program will create an opportunity for audiences to engage more deeply with themes of Nepali heritage, spirituality, identity, cultural memory, and preservation through film and conversation. About the film: Sparked by his grandmother’s ailing health, a filmmaker returns to Kathmandu, a city of vanished gods and fading rituals. When the Laxmi Narayan statue, stolen in the 1980s, resurfaces in a U.S. museum, its repatriation, led by local activists, becomes a path he follows through ritual, shrines, and the diaspora. Featuring rare archival footage of Kathmandu from the 1950s and a quiet investigative thread that uncovers the identity of the art collector who acquired the statue, the film becomes a lyrical elegy and a quiet act of resistance against colonial theft and cultural erasure. Join the Colorado Nepalese Community for a screening of this 60-minute documentary, winner of Best Documentary at the Nepal-America International Film Festival, followed by a Q&A with director Amitabh Joshi , on Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 3 to 5 PM at The Museum of Boulder, 2205 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80302. This program was created in partnership with the Colorado Nepalese Community as part of the Heritage in Motion: Third Series exhibit on display at the Museum of Boulder from August 22, 2026 – January 3, 2027.

Narayan Shrestha Presents a Vision for a “Boulder – Kathmandu Sister City Museum” in Boulder, Colorado. REGISTER HERE Join local businessman and philanthropist Narayan Shrestha to hear his vision for, and work towards, creating a Boulder – Kathmandu Sister City Museum here in Boulder. This space would allow locals and visitors to engage with the long and dynamic history of Nepal through artifacts, stories, food, and performances in central Boulder. Mr. Shrestha has a singular collection of Nepalese artifacts and is passionate about sharing the culture while creating opportunities. The Boulder and Kathmandu Sister City Project connects communities in Colorado and Nepal through long-term partnerships that promote cultural exchange, mutual support, and shared growth. Through these city pairings, communities collaborate on development initiatives that strengthen relationships and foster global understanding. Buffet dinner from Tiffin Longmont included with ticket price. About Narayan Shrestha: Colorado-based businessman and philanthropist Narayan Shrestha is guided by a mission to provide sustainable health and education services without personal, religious, or political prejudice. The organization he founded, Helping Hands Health Education (HHHE) works in close partnership with local communities to address critical disparities in care and access. Rooted in deep cultural understanding and long-standing local relationships, our approach prioritizes community-driven, economically viable solutions that can endure long after initial support. HHHE’s work began in Nepal, inspired by Mr. Shrestha’s return to his home village of Khandbari in the late 1980s. During that visit, an encounter with a critically injured child—who had gone days without medical care—sparked the realization that access to even basic healthcare was profoundly limited in rural regions. This moment planted the seeds for Helping Hands: an organization built on collaboration between international medical vol
