About the film: Sparked by his grandmother’s ailing health, a filmmaker returns to Kathmandu, a city of vanished gods and fading rituals. When the Laxmi Narayan statue, stolen in the 1980s, resurfaces in a U.S. museum, its repatriation, led by local activists, becomes a path he follows through ritual, shrines, and the diaspora. Featuring rare archival footage of Kathmandu from the 1950s and a quiet investigative thread that uncovers the identity of the art collector who acquired the statue, the film becomes a lyrical elegy and a quiet act of resistance against colonial theft and cultural erasure. Join the Colorado Nepalese Community for a screening of this 60-minute documentary, winner of Best Documentary at the Nepal-America International Film Festival, followed by a Q&A with director Amitabh Joshi , on Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 3 to 5 PM at The Museum of Boulder, 2205 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80302. This program was created in partnership with the Colorado Nepalese Community as part of the Heritage in Motion: Third Series exhibit on display at the Museum of Boulder from August 22, 2026 – January 3, 2027.
